Sure, Tamborine Mountain is all rainforest walks and cellar doors but don’t forget to pull over and actually look out once in a while. If you’re the type who packs a flask of coffee for the road, these two lookouts are your new favourite excuse to pour a cup and let the valley views do their thing.
Hang Glider Lookout
If you’ve ever driven the mountain’s western edge, you’ve probably seen the colourful wings floating above the escarpment, this is where they launch. Hang Gliders Lookout is part viewing deck, part local hangout for daredevils who run off the edge for fun (don’t worry, they’re strapped in). Even if there’s no one flying, the view is huge with green valleys stretching west and the kind of sunset that makes you want to stay till the last streak of orange disappears. Bring a blanket, bring snacks and settle in.
Knoll Road Lookout
A bit more low key but just as pretty, Knoll Road Lookout is tucked away on the quieter side of the mountain. Park up, wander over and you’ll find farmland patchworks and hazy mountain ridges stretching out as far as your eyes can squint. If you’re organised, this is a top spot for a picnic breakfast. There are a few tables waiting, plus that crisp hinterland air that makes your coffee taste even better.
