The Milkman’s Daughter is where Mermaid Beach goes to feel good about breakfast. The space is light, leafy and smells faintly of espresso and smug satisfaction. Everything’s vegetarian, but don’t panic! This isn’t kale-for-the-sake-of-it territory, it’s proper food that just happens to skip the meat.
Start with the truffle mushroom toast or the corn and zucchini fritters if you’re feeling fancy. The açai bowl’s a beauty too, all purple swirl and fresh fruit piled like art. Coffee comes strong, smoothies come thick and the banana caramel pancakes are basically an emotional support system.

Come evening, things get a little sultry. The lights drop, the music hums and the Coco Margie cocktail (that’s coconut margarita for the uninitiated) does her best work. There’s tapas, there’s wine and you’ll swear you’re somewhere far more exotic than the Gold Coast.
It’s easy, sunlit, and a little bit smug, the kind of place that makes you want to quit your job and open a café you’ll never actually open.
