Yes, city life, we see you. The emails, the traffic, the constant noise that never really switches off. It’s a lot. But out in the Lockyer Valley, there’s a place that does the exact opposite of all that.
Say hello to The Cabin, Ghost Gum Gully. Set on a 30 acre property surrounded by ghost gums, birdsong and rolling farmland, this former tiny house has been reworked into a couples-only escape designed for slowing right down. It’s private, it’s quiet and it leans fully into that country air kind of reset we all pretend we don’t need until we’re finally there.
Days here don’t come with instructions. You can wander the property, stretch out on the deck, sit by the firepit, or take a slow drive into nearby country towns. If you’re up for something a bit more playful, there’s even a vintage tractor ride that winds its way along the no-through road, or you can hop on the complimentary bikes for a leisurely pedal. There are also grazing platters made for two that feel like they belong beside a creek and a long afternoon.

Inside the interior is thoughtful and upscaled with a full kitchenette and essentials for your comfort. There’s a cosy living area with TV, a private patio and lower deck, and a restored wood staircase leading up to the loft bedroom with a soft queen bed. A mezzanine games area adds a bit of old-school fun, accessed by a bespoke foldaway staircase, while the bathroom brings a colourful, upscaled touch that feels feels both boutique and inviting.
Outdoors is where it really opens up. Multiple decks give you space to spread out, including a spacious top deck with shaded seating, a leather couch tucked into the shepherd’s hut, and open sunny areas made for doing absolutely nothing in particular. There’s also an outdoor Baby Q Weber for easy, laid-back BBQ dinners, best paired with a drink in hand and nowhere else to be. The firepit becomes its own little gathering point as the light drops, while golden hour tends to take over everything else.

And then there are the baths. Twin outdoor clawfoot tubs set under the sky and made for long soaks under the stars. It is one of those details that stops you mid-conversation and reminds you to just stay a bit longer.
The Cabin is ideal for two, but can comfortably accommodate up to four guests (thanks to a pull-out sofa bed). At just under 90 minutes from Brisbane, it’s close enough for a quick getaway, but far enough to feel like you’ve actually disappeared.
So, pack that bag, leave the city behind, and get ready to soak up some fresh air, wildlife, and sunsets that make your Instagram feed look effortless. The Cabin at Ghost Gum Gully is waiting and trust us, you’ll want to stay a little longer than planned.
