There’s something special about the tiny outback town of Tambo. It may be small on the map, but thanks to Tambo Teddies, it has a big story to tell. Since 1992, this little workshop has been turning 100% Australian wool into bears with big personalities and in doing so, has put Tambo firmly on the global stage.
What began as a way to support the local community has grown into a brand recognised around the world. Travellers detour off the highway just to visit the birthplace of the famous bears and many leave with one tucked under their arm, a keepsake that carries the heart of the outback with it.

When Tammy Johnson and Alison Shaw took over in 2014, they kept the spirit of Tambo alive while bringing fresh energy to the brand. They even set up a Regional Sewing Hub in Toowoomba, giving more makers the chance to be part of the story and helping the business grow without losing its handcrafted charm.
No two bears are the same. Each one is handmade, named, numbered and recorded, with more than 77,000 Tambo Teddies now living in homes across the globe. They’ve been gifted to dignitaries, royalty, and visiting VIPs but at their core, they’re still childhood friends for life.

Made from 100% Australian wool, Tambo Teddies showcase one of Australia’s most important industries and highlight the sustainability of natural fibres. They’re proof that a toy can be both timeless and thoughtful, stitched with care for people and planet.
The team has its sights set on Brisbane 2032, hoping Tambo Teddies will become the gift of choice for Olympic athletes and guests. Imagine athletes from across the world heading home with a little bear from the outback, now that’s a legacy worth hugging.
