Sweet Meets Savoury: West End’s Cafe Semi Semi

Tucked next to West Village in a newly developed laneway, Semi Semi is a sleek café that’s been making waves since opening in February 2025. Known for its innovative mix of Korean desserts and Australian café classics, it’s quickly become a must-visit spot.

Before air conditioning, there was bingsu—a beloved Korean treat enjoyed in the heat (though some would argue it’s perfect year-round). Bingsu is a mountain of fluffy, milk-based shaved ice topped with a variety of delicious add-ons. At Semi Semi, the Thai Frosted Bliss, featuring white pearls and mango popping pearls, is a fan favourite—perfect for sharing. Other tempting options include Black & White (sesame-flavoured bingsu with red bean and white pearls), Forest (matcha bingsu with red bean and white pearls), and Coconut Cloud (coconut bingsu with lychee popping pearls and granola).

But don’t think it’s all about the sweets. If you’re in the mood for something savoury, Semi Semi’s toasties hit the spot. You’ve got the Spicy Beef Blaze Toastie (slow-cooked beef, pickles, Swiss cheese, and their signature sauce) or the Italian Delight (salami, champagne ham, red pepper, basil pesto, mozzarella, Swiss cheese, and aioli). And for the vegetarians, the Truffle Mushroom Stack (with roasted portobello mushrooms, truffle mayo, and melted cheese) is a total winner.

Oh, and if you’ve been following the latest trends, you’ll definitely know about the pistachio craze. At Semi Semi, you can treat yourself to the oh-so-popular Iced Pistachio Latte or the Iced Peanut Butter Latte.

They’ve also got a great range of other drinks, from coffee and smoothies to chai, matcha, and hot chocolate—so no matter what you’re craving, they’ve got you covered.
