Short Grain

Opened in 2023, Short Grain is chef Martin Boetz’s return to Brisbane’s dining scene. Known for his time at Longrain in Sydney and Melbourne, Boetz brings decades of experience in Thai cuisine to this Fortitude Valley establishment. The menu features dishes like caramelised pork hock, jungle curry with tiger prawns and local squid, whole crispy fish with caramelised pineapple and Chiang Mai style spiced beef larb, all executed with precision and respect for traditional Thai flavours.

Set within a heritage-listed building, the restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements its culinary offerings. Sunlight pours in through expansive windows, illuminating exposed brick walls and natural timber furnishings that create a relaxed yet polished setting. Complementing the vibrant menu, the drinks list is tailored to highlight the rich spices and fresh ingredients on offer, while a succinct dessert selection, including a standout palm sugar caramel custard, provides a satisfying end to the meal.
