Bowen Hills has a new French bakery and it’s not mucking about. Queen Amann has moved into the old King Street Bakery spot with a sharp focus on the kouign-amann, the Breton pastry that comes out caramelised, flaky and rich. It opened at 7am on Thursday 26 June and promptly started selling out, so plan your run early.

The line-up swings from the classic to limited flavours like strawberry chamomile, blueberry matcha and bourbon chocolate pecan, plus twice baked pistachio croissants, fruit packed danishes, hazelnut choc babka, lamington doughnuts, sausage rolls, pies, stacked sandwiches and focaccia with mozzarella, stracciatella, pesto, pistachio and honey. You’ll also spot loaves from Cordelia Sourdough and bagels from NYC Bagel Deli.

Coffee is Five Senses’ Crompton Road, with matcha and hojicha from Shizuoka and fresh juices if you’re skipping caffeine. It’s the latest project from Larry Lim with Ania Kutek and Eddy Tice (NYC Bagel Deli, Superthing, Cordelia) and you’ll find it on King Street in Bowen Hills.
