If you’re heading to North Straddie, Naree Budjong Djara National Park is well worth a visit. It takes up nearly half the island and is looked after by the Quandamooka People alongside Queensland Parks. The name means “My Mother Earth” in the local language and it’s one of the most meaningful spots on the island.
There are walking tracks through woodlands and coastal heath, past wildflowers and freshwater wetlands. The Blue Lake walk is the best known, a flat track that leads to a still, deep lake known as Karboora. It’s a place of cultural significance, so no swimming, just quiet appreciation. Other trails like the Neembeeba lookout give you elevated views across the landscape and out to sea.
You won’t find facilities or signage overload here. It’s just open space, natural sounds and a strong sense that you’re walking through something that matters. A good stop when you need a change from the beach.
