Mockingbird has been a Kingscliff institution for years and it’s not hard to see why. On a busy Saturday morning the outdoor tables fill up fast with locals, cyclists and weekend visitors who all seem to know something the rest of Brisbane hasn’t figured out yet.
Owner Jo Jackson has lived in Kingscliff for over 24 years and that connection to the community shows in everything from the menu to the atmosphere. This is a place where people settle in, read the paper over coffee and end up staying longer than planned. The kitchen grows its own herbs out back and the food is built around hyper-local seasonal produce, avocados from nearby Duranbah, Berkshire bacon from Murwillumbah, bread and pasta made from scratch in house.

Signature dishes include the Chilli Eggs, Corn Frittas and Tofu Scramble, and the coffee sourced from Blackboard Roasters is taken seriously. Dog friendly with plenty of outdoor seating, it’s the kind of cafe that earns its regulars and keeps them.
