Lert Rod Thai Restaurant and Bar

Sunnybank’s Market Square is the go to spot for Asian food lovers, packed with stalls and restaurants that dish up everything from dumplings to dum sum. But if you’re ready to level up your Thai game, head upstairs and you’ll find Lert Rod Thai Restaurant and Bar, the kind of place that makes you want to order everything on the menu and maybe a few things twice.

The name “Lert Rod” (เลศรส) means “excellent taste” in Thai, combining words that translate to “excellent” and “flavour.” The restaurant lives up to this by serving dishes inspired by Thailand’s vibrant street food culture. For centuries, Thai vendors have sold meals and snacks from carts and stalls along busy streets and waterways. Lert Rod captures that spirit while adjusting recipes to suit local tastes without losing the core balance of sweet, sour, salty, umami and spicy flavours that define Thai cuisine.

Standouts include the whole squid with chilli lime sauce, fresh, hot and zesty and the dry tom yum noodle, a punchy, textural dish that hits all corners of the palate. The spicy raw prawn salad brings bright acid and real bite, while the nam tok beef delivers a grilled richness cut through with herbs and toasted rice.

One of the most impressive offerings is their range of barramundi. Four variations to choose from, either fried or steamed, each paired with a different sauce. It’s a smart addition that lets you lean into whatever mood you’re in, whether it’s light and herby or deep and savoury.

Lert Rod is open daily for lunch and dinner. You’ll find it upstairs at Shop 51, Market Square, Sunnybank.
