The Jellurgal Walkabout isn’t your average Gold Coast stroll. Led by local Aboriginal guides from the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Burleigh Heads, it’s a walk that turns the coastline into a living storybook.
You start at the centre where you’ll see traditional tools, artwork and Dreaming stories that stretch back thousands of years. Then you head out onto the Burleigh Headland track, tracing a path along the sea where the Yugambeh people have lived and told stories long before cafés moved in. There’s bush tucker, sacred sites and the kind of insight that makes you realise how young your own history really is.

The walk is about two hours in total. The standard route is roughly 1.2 km one way on the “Oceanview Track” from Tallebudgera Creek to Burleigh Point, classed as a Grade 2 walk (gentle hills, hardened surface, occasional steps) and it’s suitable for most fitness levels.
If you’re planning your next Gold Coast day and want something meaningful, go for the Jellurgal Walkabout.
