Tucked along Hawthorne Road, Hawthorne Garage has become a bit of an institution for locals who like their groceries with a side of good coffee. Once a humble mechanic’s workshop, it’s now a café deli market hybrid that somehow manages to feel both polished and down to earth. The red vintage truck out front gives away its old-school roots, but inside it’s warm lighting and shelves stacked with local produce and small batch pantry staples you won’t find at Coles or Woolies.

The coffee window is the heartbeat of the place. Early risers queue for their morning flat white while the kitchen turns out bacon and egg wraps and almond croissants that somehow always disappear by mid-morning. Step further in and you’ll find fresh flowers by the counter, truffle brie in the fridge, handmade pasta and an impressive lineup of local wines and condiments that make dinner planning dangerously fun.

You leave with your hands full and a flat white in the cup holder, already planning what excuse you’ll use to come back tomorrow.
