Griffith English Language Institute

Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) has been delivering English language programs to international students for over 30 years. As Griffith University’s official English language provider, GELI offers courses to more than 1,000 students annually from over 40 countries.

GELI provides two main programs: the General English program and the Direct Entry Program (DEP). The General English program caters to learners at all proficiency levels, focusing on everyday communication skills such as speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The DEP is designed for students aiming to enter Griffith University degrees, Study Abroad or Exchange programs or Griffith College diplomas. It builds English language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and at higher levels, includes academic skills to prepare students for university studies. Successful completion of the DEP allows direct entry into Griffith programs without the need for additional English proficiency tests.

GELI offers small class sizes, ensuring personalised attention to meet individual learning needs. Students have access to free after class academic workshops focusing on specific skill areas like grammar and vocabulary. The institute also provides an Independent Learning Centre, both on-campus and online, to enhance language skills outside the classroom.

Beyond academics, GELI encourages participation in free and low cost activities to practise English, make friends and experience Australian culture. New students enrolled in the DEP or General English programs can also benefit from a free airport pickup service from Brisbane and Gold Coast airports to their pre-arranged accommodation.

Located in Brisbane, a city known for its affordability compared to other major Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne, GELI provides various accommodation options, including on-campus, off-campus and homestay with local families.

For outstanding students commencing undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degrees at Griffith University, GELI offers the Direct Entry Program Scholarship.

GELI operates at multiple locations, including the Brisbane City campus at 333 Ann Street and the Gold Coast campus at Parklands Drive, Southport.
