Wonderstruck lands at GOMA with free art, live music, dot covered walls and a whole lot of fun.
For anyone who’s been in Brisbane long enough, remember back in late 2011 when your mum, your aunty or heck, even the neighbour she always chats with was flooding your feed with selfies of that dot covered room at GOMA? Well, guess what? That cheeky chaos is rolling back into town!

Wonderstruck is sweeping through GOMA from June 28 to October 6, filling the ground floor with a vibrant mix of more than 100 artworks and interactive installations by over 70 international and Australian artists, all free to explore. One of the undeniable highlights is Yayoi Kusama’s beloved Obliteration Room, a stark white domestic space that slowly transforms under a rainbow of dot stickers applied by visitors. An evolving collaboration that first debuted here in 2002 and never fails to thrill newcomers and returning fans alike.
Alongside Kusama, a vivid landscape of creativity unfolds: Ron Mueck’s hyperreal “In Bed” invites raw emotional connection, Patricia Piccinini’s towering “The Observer” stirs reflections on innocence and Ai Weiwei breathes new life into ancient pottery with bold colours.

Beyond the grand statements, Wonderstruck charms with whimsy and wonder from Pip & Pop’s jewel toned Rainbow Bridge to Sandra Selig’s delicate mid air installations of thread and balls, to Tobias Putrih’s playful cardboard arch and Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan’s participatory sculpture where visitors add their own creations to a shared landscape. At the festival launch weekend, June 28–29, GOMA will spring to life with free workshops, talks, storytelling, music and face painting, making it perfect for families and art lovers of all ages.
