If you’re spending a day at Point Lookout, Fishes at the Point is one of those places that just makes sense. It’s right across from the North Gorge Walk, close to the beach and always smells like hot chips and salt air. You can grab a table out front or order takeaway and eat it overlooking the ocean.
The snapper’s popular, crumbed or battered and the portions are generous without being over the top. Burgers are big and a bit messy in the best way, especially the steak and egg or cheesy chicken with pineapple. If you’re gluten free, they’ve actually got you sorted with a separate fryer and proper GF buns. Coffee comes out quick, made with Brisbane roasted Abrisca beans and the fridge is stocked with juices, soft drinks and a few cold Straddie Brewing Co beers on tap.

The vibe changes depending on the time, quiet in the morning, livelier in the afternoon, especially on Saturdays when they’ve got live music playing out front. The wrap and salad options are handy if you’re in a hurry and there’s a steady stream of locals ducking in for just that. It’s simple, reliable and feels like the kind of place that’s been part of the island forever.
