QAGOMA: The Big Hose

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Make your way to the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) and experience The Big Hose, a playful new interactive sculpture that’s set to delight visitors in Brisbane. Created by contemporary Australian artists Tony Albert and Nell, this oversized sculpture stretches 119 metres and takes inspiration from the quintessential Queensland backyard, complete with breezy verandas, lush subtropical gardens and all the charm that makes local life so iconic.

The Big Hose isn’t just a visual spectacle, it’s designed for interaction. Visitors of all ages can explore, touch and even play around the sculpture, making it perfect for families, friends or anyone looking to enjoy art in a fun, hands-on way. The bold and quirky design also makes it a fantastic spot for photos, adding a splash of colour and creativity to your weekend adventures.

Generously supported by donors including Andrew and Dr Susan King, the Neilson Foundation and Margaret and Cathryn Mittelheuser, The Big Hose is more than just a “big thing”, it’s a celebration of Queensland culture, creativity and community. Whether you’re exploring Brisbane’s Cultural Centre or just seeking a unique way to spend your day, this whimsical installation promises a weekend full of fun and a little bit of Queensland magic.
