Doodee Boran

Doodee Boran nails Thai street food in Brisbane and locals keep coming back

Down a laneway off Charlotte Street, Doodee Boran has a serious cult following. The space is small, the tables are close and the turnover is quick. What you get is loud, fast Thai food that doesn’t mess around.

Tom yum noodles are the main draw. You pick your noodles, add your protein, then brace yourself for the chilli. It’s not watered down. The broth is sharp, sour and smoky, just as it should be. It clears sinuses and keeps people coming back.

The spicy raw salmon has its own following. It lands on the table drenched in anchovy sauce, with raw garlic, onion, cherry tomatoes and enough fresh chilli to wake you up. There’s also duck curry, papaya salad and stir fries that hold their heat.

You won’t find designer interiors or curated playlists. The mood is shaped by the clatter of plates and the pace of the kitchen. On Friday nights, live music adds to the rhythm, but everything still circles back to the food.

Doodee Boran isn’t trying to reinvent anything. It focuses on street level Thai cooking with depth and balance and it gets it right. The crowd knows. The place is packed for a reason.
