Declan’s is a café perched at the top of the hill in Caloundra West on the Sunshine Coast—a hidden gem that people stumble upon and can’t help but share. It has quickly become a safe haven and local favourite for many, from loyal regulars and mum groups to tradies stopping by on their way to work.
Declan’s began with the legacy of one man: Declan Billerwell. He was the kind of person who belonged to every community he entered—the friendly smile you’d pass on the street and the neighbour always willing to lend a helping hand. After being diagnosed with cancer, he sadly passed away in August 2022. Shortly after, his daughter opened the café in his honour.

In the final chapter of his life, Declan was living in Canberra, where a simple daily visit to a local café became something far more meaningful. The café owner showed genuine care and compassion, building a personal connection that brought comfort and support during a difficult time.
Inspired by that experience, the family set out to create more than just a place for great coffee. They wanted to build a space where people feel seen, valued, and supported.

Since opening, Declan’s has become exactly that. It’s a place where locals gather to celebrate life’s milestones—new jobs, engagements, and baby announcements—and where everyday moments are shared, from laughter to the occasional story of a not-so-great date. It’s vibrant yet relaxed and deeply rooted in community.
“The café is for him—to continue his kindness,” the family says. “So he lives on.”
