Brisbane’s Buddha Birth Day Festival Returns This May

The Buddha Birth Day Festival is back at Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple from 2 to 4 May 2025, marking 35 years of reflection, community and culture.

Since 1997, this annual event has grown into one of Queensland’s largest cultural gatherings. Set among the trees in Priestdale, the festival blends Buddhist tradition with activities for all ages; no ticket required. It’s calm, welcoming and full of small moments worth showing up for.

Over three days, you’ll find tea meditations, Tai Chi, Dharma talks and vegetarian eats worth clearing your afternoon for. There’s lion dancing, Chinese calligraphy and a baby blessing ceremony that brings all generations together. Families can settle in for storytelling while Saturday night brings a laser light show across the temple grounds.

This year’s theme, “Coexistence and Coprosperity,” carries through every part of the program from the food to the performances. Whether you’re there to explore, rest or simply wander the gardens with a bao in hand, it’s a gentle space to be.

Open daily from 9 am, with extended hours on Saturday. Head to 1034 Underwood Road, Priestdale for the full experience. Find the details at buddhabirthdayfestival.com.au.
