Brisbane Open House is back this July 19 and 20 and if you’ve ever wanted to poke around places you’d normally just walk past, now’s your chance. For one weekend, the city swings open doors to more than 90 buildings and spaces, from heritage treasures to slick modern builds, hidden studios to grand old halls with stories tucked into every corner.
This year’s shaping up to be the biggest program in years, the kind of weekend where you’ll find yourself exploring a century old theatre one minute and an architect’s dream home the next. Ten architect designed private homes are on the list this time, which is rare and well worth putting on your hit list. There are plenty of fresh faces too, like Rivière by Aria, Milton House, Bradbury Park Playscape and the Morningside School of Arts all opening up for the very first time.

It’s not just about stickybeaking through beautiful buildings either. There’s a packed lineup of talks, guided walks, exhibitions, live music and the crowd favourite BOH After Dark. Most of it’s free (which we love) but a few tours and special events need a ticket or booking. They drop at 8am on July 5 so don’t snooze on it if you’ve got your eye on something.
Head to brisbaneopenhouse.com.au for the full program. Go on and be nosy.
