If you’ve made it to Montville and Maleny and haven’t detoured to Baroon Pocket Dam, you’re doing it wrong. This hidden gem is just a short drive from the village and it’s pure serenity. Think rolling hills, calm water, and grassy banks made for lazing around with a book, a mate or a well-stocked picnic basket.
You can paddle around in a kayak, cast a line (yes, it’s stocked with fish) or claim a shady spot and do absolutely nothing. There are BBQs, picnic tables and even a couple of playgrounds if the kids need to burn some energy. Swimming’s allowed too, just stick to the designated areas and don’t expect a lifeguard.
It’s peaceful, pretty and the perfect way to soak up that hinterland magic without needing to hike for hours.
