Bam Bam Bakehouse is the Gold Coast’s worst kept secret and for good reason. Hidden just off the highway in Mermaid Beach it’s the sort of place you can smell before you see.
Everything is made in small batches and you can taste the care. The croissants are crisp on the outside and melt the second they hit your tongue. There’s the philly cheesesteak croissant, the karaage chicken croissant burger or egg nasi if you’re chasing something with a kick. Then there’s the pastry cabinet which is basically a gallery of temptation. The salted caramel éclair has a cult following and the Nutella cruffin might just ruin you for all other desserts.
The space itself is bright and relaxed with big glass windows, timber tables and the occasional sandy-footed customer straight from the beach. Coffee is strong, the playlist is good and there’s usually a queue that moves just fast enough to build the suspense.
Go early if you want first pick and grab a seat under the trees out front.
