Wandoo Street has a new main character and it goes by the name Aunty. Tucked just behind James Street in Fortitude Valley, Aunty on Wandoo opened on 5 February and brings modern Cantonese-inspired flavours to one of Brisbane’s buzziest dining strips.
The space spans around 400 square metres in the former City Winery site, seating up to 100 diners across a series of connected areas. Interiors balance moody lighting with rich deep green banquettes, warm timber tones and marble touches that reference traditional teahouses in a fresh way. There’s also a 24-seat semi-private room tucked behind curtains for group dinners or special occasions, and booths and varied levels that make the room feel layered rather than one big open hall.

Inspired by the spirit of a Cantonese teahouse and sharpened with a contemporary edge, Aunty leans into bold, fire-fuelled cooking and a menu built to be shared. Think familiar favourites done properly, from dim sum and char siu pork to roast duck, alongside plates that push a little further without losing their grounding.
The menu moves between snackable starters and centre-of-table plates. Highlights include prawn toast with pickled green papaya and yuzu mayo, wagyu beef tartare with chilli bean dressing and smoked duck yolk, and Aunty’s dan dan ragu with pork and sesame sauce tossed through mafaldine. There’s also ½ duck served two ways and Moreton Bay bug siu mai, while richer options like mud crab finished with crab butter and bisque foam round things out.

If your idea of a good night out involves bold flavours and a space that feels confident but warm, Aunty certainly deserves a spot on your dining list.
