Ever tried doing Pilates on a floating board in the middle of a salt-water lagoon? No? Then you’re due for the Aqua Sculpt Floating Pilates session at JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa in Surfers Paradise. It sounds quirky because it is. 45 minutes, early morning, gentle waves and one of Australia’s best hotel pools as your backdrop.
The session is designed to engage multiple muscle groups at once, balance, strength and flexibility. Your board is floating in the lagoon, the instructor leads you through movements that feel a little like yoga met Pilates met “hey I might fall in the water but it’s okay”. Held in shallow, calm waters, boards are anchored using weights making them safe and accessible.

It’s open to the public, not just hotel guests, and spots are limited (yes that means you might want to book ahead). At around $45 for a session it’s a small splurge that packs in good exercise and that sweet-spot moment when you feel alive and a little dazed by the view. Plus the salt water breeze makes the “work-out” feel suspiciously like a holiday.
